With thousands of satisfied customers, an unsurpassed reputation for integrity, and an ever-changing inventory of over 800 vintage wristwatches for sale, Finertimes.com has emerged as the Internet's premier source for quality vintage wristwatches. Although other watch dealers brag about their websites, Finertimes.com pioneered the concept of selling vintage wristwatches on-line.
Finertimes.com is the brainchild of entrepreneurs Don Baker and Zaf Basha, whose fascination with vintage timepieces has evolved into a successful full-time business. The guiding philosophy behind Finertimes.com is simple: Don and Zaf share with their customers a passion for fine wristwatches, having started out as collectors themselves, and they encourage their customers to learn as much as they can about this rewarding hobby.
The company was launched in 1988, when Don – whose career as a CPA included stints in public accounting at Arthur Andersen, and subsequent financial executive positions within the financial services industry – decided to put out a mail order list of vintage wristwatches, in hopes of selling a few pieces from his large collection. Not only was his experiment a success, Don sold every single watch in a matter of days.
At the time, vintage watch collecting was still in its infancy, relatively speaking, and with his extensive knowledge of the Hamilton Watch Company, Don was able to fill a niche that was being ignored by other dealers. In short order, Don became one of the country's leading specialists in vintage Hamilton wristwatches, handling some of the rarest and most desirable Hamilton wristwatches ever produced, including the platinum Piping Rock, the Donovan, the Admiral Byrd, and a number of other unusual Hamilton rarities.
For the next several years, Don continued to work as the Chief Operating Officer of a major third party administrator in the health insurance industry while running Finer Times Vintage Watches in his spare time. As the business continued to expand, however, it became obvious that he would have to choose one or the other. So it was that Don began seriously contemplating a full-time career as a vintage wristwatch dealer. Despite his enthusiasm though, Don was not thrilled by the idea of having to constantly travel around the country, attending watch shows. Fortuitously, it was around this time that Zaf called Don with a business proposal.
Don and Zaf had known one another informally for several years, having met on-line in CompuServe's hobby forums. Zaf, who was working as Director of Software Development for Watson Wyatt, a global management consulting firm based in Washington D.C., was fast becoming the country's leading authority on Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces. With Zaf residing in Washington D.C. and Don in Southwest Florida, however, a partnership seemed unlikely, until 1995 when both men realized that the Internet would forever change the way watches were bought and sold.
Given Zaf's expertise in software design, coupled with Don's extensive business experience, Don and Zaf decided to form a partnership to sell watches via this exciting new medium. Finer Times Vintage Watches went "live" in March of 1995 and featured a small selection of watches. Just as he had been surprised years earlier by the success of his mail order list, Don was equally astounded to discover how quickly the watches were selling, often within hours, once they were posted on-line.
It's important to remember that back in 1995, at a time when people were just discovering the Internet, a website offering watches for sale was a novel concept as Don and Zaf were soon to realize when they would receive faxes from ten different individuals all wanting to buy the same watch. The Internet, with its ability to transmit clear, crisp, digital images of watches, allowed for more efficient communications between collectors and dealers and changed the hobby forever. As a result, a collector living in Texas did not have to attend a watch show in Arizona to find the watch he was looking for. Instead, he could simply shop for that watch on-line.
It goes without saying that the enormous success of Finertimes.com has spawned many imitators, but the reputation of our company speaks for itself. In 1998, Don and Zaf dissolved their previous company, Finer Times Partnership, and formed Finer Times Market Place, LLC.
Although technology is changing at a rapid pace, Don and Zaf still pride themselves on providing "old-fashioned" customer service as well as the very finest in pre-owned modern and vintage wristwatches. Every single watch offered for sale by Finertimes.com is guaranteed to be 100% genuine and in as close to its original condition, both mechanically and cosmetically, as possible. Finertimes.com will not sacrifice cosmetic appearance for the sake of originality, however.
From their own experience as collectors, Don and Zaf realize that certain watches lend themselves to restoration, while others are best left original. With this in mind, Finertimes.com offers watches for both the discriminating collector seeking absolute originality, as well as watches that can be worn casually and have been restored to look like new. As far as restoration goes, Finertimes.com replates cases and refinishes dials only when necessary, and with an eye toward maintaining the watch's original appearance. Either way, you can be rest assured that every watch sold by Finertimes.com is a vintage timepiece you can be proud to wear.
When you buy a watch from Finertimes.com, your complete satisfaction is guaranteed. Unlike other Internet dealers, Finertimes.com has been in business since 1988 and is not a "fly-by-night" operation staffed by commissioned salespeople. When you inquire about a watch, you deal with Don or Zaf directly. This is their full-time business. Don and Zaf's greatest satisfaction comes from helping watch enthusiasts from all walks of life find their dream watch, no matter how much or how little it may cost.
In addition to their combined 25 years experience in the field of buying and selling vintage wristwatches, both Don and Zaf are longtime members of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors, as well as the International Watch & Jewelry Guild and the American Watchmakers Institute.
Zaf resides in Washington, D.C. while Don lives in Lutz, Florida. In addition to his other responsibilities, Zaf creates original software designs for the company. Both men are married with children, and remain active collectors of military, Hamilton, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Omega vintage wristwatches. Zaf and Don welcome any inquiries from collectors, and want to thank their many loyal customers for helping to make Finertimes.com the number one source for premier vintage timepieces on the Internet.
