Frequently Asked Questions
What is Finer Times?
Finer Times  is Don Baker of Tampa, Florida and Zaf Basha of Washington, DC. Don has been in the vintage wrist watch business for approximately 10 years via a monthly mailing list. He partnered with Zaf on the World Wide Web page in December 1995. Finer Times was the first on-line wrist watch catalog to appear on the net and although has been copied and imitated, has never been duplicated. In 1999, in order to bring the largest number of quality, vintage timepieces to its customers, Finer Times introduced its "Affiliate Dealer" program. This program incorporates a number of additional dealers on the Finer Times' web site, each offering their own inventories of wrist watches.
How do I go about buying a watch from Finer Times?
Check the "How to Order" link next to a watch you would like to buy. Although similar, each Finer Times' dealer sets their own order terms. All dealers stand behind what they sell and offer at a minimum a 3 day unconditional money back guarantee, less shipping. Please note that only the Affiliate Dealer can answer questions about his watches.
I see many watches that are "on hold"...what does that mean?
When someone makes a firm commitment to purchase a watch, we place that watch "on hold" while awaiting payment. Generally the watch stays on the page "on hold" until we receive payment and ship the watch. This can some times take two to three weeks, especially in the case of overseas orders. By leaving watches on the page for these extra days (keep in mind that many of the watches sell within a few hours of being placed on the page), others can view them and find items of interest. Expressing that interest to us helps us when we go on buying trips.
I've found a watch that I would like to buy but I am concerned about what it will look like when I get it?
Finer Times offers a three day return policy for just this reason. While we do our best to provide images and descriptions that accurately describe each watch, there is no substitute for evaluating the watch in person. Any watch may be returned within three days of receiving it for any reason. This insures that you will be satisfied with your purchase. As noted on the [Terms] page, shipping and handling charges are not refundable and the watch must be returned in the condition received at the buyer's expense.
How often (when) do you add watches to the page?
We add watches almost daily as we get them. The page is updated each evening between midnight and 1:00 a.m. EST. Newly added watches and price changes will appear on the ["What's Different] page for approximately 7 days.
Do you ship watches overseas and if so, how much does it cost?
Finer Times ships to the world. You will find associated costs on each dealer's "How to Order" page. Overseas buyers should be aware that various customs issues applied in many countries. Finer Times, and its affiliated dealers, are not responsible for costs associated with the receipt of a watch (such as taxes, VAT, duties, etc.).
Are your customers satisfied with their purchases?
Check our [Feedback Page] and judge for yourself.
I have a watch in my possesion that I would like additional information on. Can Finer Times help?"
Because of the time required to operate the Finer Times' web site, Don and Zaf are unable to answer general questions about specific watches. Information on many brands can be found on the Finer Times' site. We would also suggest that inquires be made on the "alt.horology" news group.
